MICHAEL BALE - PRINCIPAL
Michael Bale has been practising all aspects of business and commercial law, dispute resolution, franchising, and conveyancing law since 1995 at Wilson & Co (12 years) and at other Wellington based commercial legal practices. Michael is based in our Wellington and Masterton Offices. Michael’s strengths are in all aspects of business and commercial law and dispute resolution including franchising, leases, conveyancing and subdivision, and corporate advice on commercial matters.
Michael is married to Joke (pronounced “Yorka” – she is from Belgium) and they live in Greytown with their three young children. Michael’s interests include gardening and mechanical work, especially old motorcycles, particularly if they have sidecars.

KIRSTEN TOWNSLEY - PRINCIPAL
Kirsten joined the Firm of Wilson & Co in 2001 from a previous position with the Official Assignee in Wellington. Kirsten became a principal at Wilson & Co in 2009 and specialises in commercial, banking and securities law, all aspects of land law and drafting and advising on commercial agreements of all types. Kirsten has advised on numerous large corporate acquisitions of land and business assets.
Kirsten is married to Clark and they have twin daughters Paige and Samantha. She loves the outdoors spending her free time mountain biking, cycling, swimming, surfing and has recently started training for her first Ironman event.
Kirsten is based in our Wellington Office.

JO MCDONALD - CONSULTANT
Jo joined the team at WCM Legal in October 2013 and works in our Wellington and Wairarapa offices. Jo is a fellow of the New Zealand Institute of Legal Executives and is a Licenced Conveyancer. Jo has over thirty years’ experience in commercial, residential and rural property acquisitions and disposals, banking and securities law, leasing and contract negotiations.
Outside of work Jo loves cuisine, cooking, reading and gardening.

John Goddard - SENIOR Associate
John joined our team in 2018 from another Wellington law firm. He was admitted to the bar in 2010 and worked as a barrister and solicitor in a number of roles since then. John deals with all aspects of civil litigation and alternative dispute resolution. In particular he specialises in disputes concerning construction, employment & insurance law (including earthquake claims arising from both the Canterbury and Kaikoura earthquakes).
In Christchurch, John worked as Supervising Solicitor for the Residential Advisory Service and therefore provides a focus on resolving earthquake claims, alternative dispute resolution and civil litigation for the firm. John is eager to engage with clients and offer mentoring to more junior members of the office. John is Treasurer of the New Zealand Labour Law Society and an associate member of AMINZ.
Outside of work, John enjoys playing tennis and spending time with his family. John is based in our Wellington Office.

Jon Parker - Consultant
Jon comes to us from another Wellington legal firm where he spent over two decades as Senior Litigation Partner heading the Insurance and Dispute Resolution Team.
Jon has specialised in insurance litigation for most of his professional career. He has acted for many New Zealand insurers and also overseas insurers. His speciality areas have been general and statutory liability, professional indemnity and disciplinary matters. Apart from providing opinion work he has also been engaged in litigation for insurance companies at all levels of Courts in New Zealand as well as extensive experience resolving disputes through alternative dispute resolution, particularly arbitration and mediation.
In addition to insurance he has extensive experience in dealing with estate claims, property disputes, lease disputes and construction disputes. He is currently involved in several large claims against insurers involving earthquake damage in Christchurch. He is a member of the New Zealand Insurance Law Association and also the Medico Legal Society.

lara goddard - SOLICITOR
Lara joined our team in 2019. She was admitted to the bar in 2010 and worked as a barrister and solicitor in a firm in Christchurch and as a research assistant at the University of Canterbury Law School. Lara deals with all aspects of property and commercial law.
Lara is married to John, a senior associate at WCM Legal. Outside of work, Lara enjoys horse riding, gardening and spending time with her family. Lara works part time in our Wellington Office.

Katelyn George - Registered Legal Executive
Wairarapa born and bred, Katelyn joined the team at WCM Legal in June 2017 and works between our Wellington and Masterton offices. Katelyn acts for clients on a wide variety of residential and commercial conveyancing matters and also has a strong interest in rural conveyancing, subdivisions and particularly assisting first home buyers with the daunting process of purchasing their first home.
Outside of work Katelyn is kept busy with her family, a large variety of animals (including Pugsley the pug) and completing her and her partner’s first home building project.
